Chispuditos ® was developed by a multidisciplinary team of nutritionists, scientists and nutrition caregivers to provide high quality and vital minerals and vitamins to undernourished children in Central America. Chispuditos is a corn and soy blend fortified with micronutrients and is a culturally accepted food that results in ease of use and high compliance.
Chispuditos tastes good, is familiar to this population, and provides a comprehensive micronutrient package called M+ ™ that provides minerals and vitamins a child needs to survive and thrive and is manufactured in Guatemala.
During the first years of life, nutrition is essential for body and brain development. To reach full potential and thrive as children and adults, an individual must have adequate nutrition during the first years of life.
Consequences of Undernutrition
Within Central America, food consumption is largely determined by taste, familiarity,
and availability. Many nutrition interventions are currently provided in the form of nu-
trient drops and syrups that taste bad, stain children’s teeth and clothes, may need to
be mixed with other foods, and in some cases may cause nausea. These limitations re-
sult in poor compliance and a markedly reduced nutritional impact. There remains a
need for a culturally appropriate, easy to use, and nutritionally efficacious solution to
address the widespread malnutrition that exists within Central America.
